
Final Thesis Supervisor Approval Rule
Article 1
General Provisions
- The function of Supervisor for Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral studies may be performed by a university lecturer or a GMBS researcher or other professional who meets the qualification requirements according to Article 2
- The condition for performing the function of a Supervisor is his/her approval by the GMBS Scientific Council.
Article 2
Qualifications for the Function of a Supervisor
- The qualification prerequisite for the performance of the function of a Supervisor for the doctoral study programme is:
- In the case of a university lecturer, an academic degree from a recognised university at MQF/EQF level 8, relevant teaching and/or professional experience;
- In the case of an eminent expert from practice, an academic degree from a recognised university at MQF/EQF level 7, and a minimum of 6 years' experience in the field that is the subject of the dissertation thesis.
- The qualification prerequisite for the performance of the function of a Supervisor for the Master's study programme is:
- In the case of a university lecturer, an academic degree from a recognised university at MQF/EQF level 8, relevant teaching and/or professional experience;
- In the case of an eminent expert from practice, an academic degree from a recognised university at MQF/EQF level 7, and a minimum of 4 years' experience in the field that is the subject of the Master's thesis.
- The qualification prerequisite for the performance of the function of a Supervisor for the Bachelor's study programme is:
- In the case of a university lecturer, an academic degree from a recognised university at MQF/EQF level 7, relevant teaching and/or professional experience;
- In the case of an eminent expert from practice, an academic degree from a recognised university at MQF/EQF level 6, and a minimum of 4 years' experience in the field that is the subject of the Master's thesis.
Article 3
Other Qualifications for the Function of a Supervisor
- In addition to the qualification prerequisites referred to in Article 2, the following shall be considered for the approval of the Supervisor:
Teaching activity
Scientific research activities
Publishing activities
Active involvement in the field of study; professional practice
Other relevant facts.
- The prerequisite for acting as a Supervisor is active work in the field, or in a related field in which he/she will act as a Supervisor.
- The length of teaching or scientific experience of the Supervisor must be at least four (4) years.
Article 4
Supervisor-Specialist
- The Scientific Council may approve a Supervisor-Specialist with a defined scope (time, stage) of doctoral studies. A person who has already obtained the academic degree of PhD or its equivalent may be a Supervisor-Specialist provided that he/she meets the other prerequisites for the performance of the function of a Supervisor according to Article 3.
- In assessing a Supervisor-Specialist, the Scientific Council may reduce the requirements set out in Article 3.
Article 5
Approval Procedure
- The Rector submits a proposal for the approval of a Supervisor to the Scientific Council.
- The Rector submits a proposal for the approval of a Supervisor-Specialist to the Scientific Council upon the Supervisor's recommendation.
- The Rector appoints the Supervisor and the Supervisor-Specialist once approved by the Scientific Council.
Article 6
Special Provisions
Once a year, a Supervisor evaluates the studies and results of the doctoral students he/she supervises with a proposal for the continuation or cancellation of the doctoral student's studies.
The Supervisor shall be approved for five (5) years and may be approved repeatedly.
